IA Presentation FAQs
Dear all,
Some of you have finished writing the report and are asking me to post the presentation requirements online. Don't ask me who. So, here goes.
1. How long are we supposed to present for?
Every student should plan and rehearse for a 10 to 20 minute presentation.
No time extension will be given. Maximum is 20 minutes.
So, please remember to rehearse and time yourself.
2. What should the presentation contain?
The presentation should be a summary of your report.
Everything should be short and brief.
For example, the introduction of company should be around 1 slide.
The only area you should focus on is the things you learnt in your IA.
3. What else should we take note of?
You are encouraged to include pictures or other forms of presentation material, e.g., sample of documents, if possible.
If no, pictures will do.
Videos are also accepted.

How to Write your IA Report
Hi guys,
Just want to post something here to help you write your report.
I suggest to be on the safe side, just follow my guidelines.
This will guide you as to what each section of the report will contain.
1. Introduction
- History of Company
- Background of Company
- Any parent company or sister company?
- What are the customers that your company or department is serving?
2. Nature of Operations or Business
- What is your company?
- Is it a 3PL? Is it a Manufacturing Company?
- Is it an NVOCC?
- Which industry is your company in?
3. Organization Chart
- Please give me an organization chart
- Must describe the major roles
- E.g., Manager or Operations do what?
4. Target Market
- Which industry is your company aiming?
- Please do not write the current customers that your company is serving.
- E.g., Schenker's target market is in the Electronics industry, etc...
5. Products and Services
- What products are your company selling?
- Please DO NOT tell me the products that your customers are selling.
- For example, Teck Wah Logistics is storing products for Philips. Tech Wah does not sell Philips products. Teck Wah has no products.
- If your company is a 3PL, most probably they will only offer services?
- E.g., warehousing services, distribution, etc..
- If possible, find out what are the value-added services provided as well.
6. Duties and Job Description
- What is your job in the company?
- If can put pictures, good. But also must include some explanations of the pictures.
- Please don't write in day format. E.g., today I do this. Next day I do that.
- Write in task format. E.g., sleeping. What are the steps of sleeping? How to sleep effectively? What happens if I have not enough sleep?
7. Observation of Current Situation
- Please write down 5 problems you observe in the company.
- Work-related
- Explain the consequences or the implications of the problems.
- Do not write observations, just problems.
8. Recommendations for Improvemen
- This is related to part 7.
- Please write 5 solutions to part 7 problems.
- Explain why is your solution good.

Yellow Yellow Dirty Fellow
This blog entry is a guide on how to fill up the Yellow Log Book. There are several parts to completing the Log Book. In order to get your 'A', all parts must be filled completely and correctly.
Part 1: The Cover Page
Please read each field carefully and fill up accordingly.
Previously, I had students rushing through to fill up the fields that they mis-read them.
I shall not say what mistakes they made, or which fields they mis-read.
You guys just be careful about it.
Part 2: Weekly Reports
This portion requires you to fill in the tasks that you performed daily.
You do not need to write in detail explaining everything that you did. This portion is for short, accurate, concise descriptions about the tasks performed.
See above pictures for examples.
Part 3: New Skills / Knowledge Acquired / Lessons Learned
This is the last page of the Logbook. Same as the cover page, please fill in all details correctly.
In general, what ever it is you are filling up or doing, just plan first before you write. If you write too much in the first few weeks, you will have problems for the later weeks.
However, if you do not write enough early on, you will not score well.
So how?
Recommendation is to plan your writing. Also, keep asking your supervisor for more jobs to do. Then you will have more things to write. And also, your supervisor will have a better impression of you - which means better appraisal scores.

Part 3: New Skills / Knowledge Acquired / Lessons Learned
This portion is to expand on the previous one. So, while the previous portion is in point form, this part will require you to write in detail.
How to write in detail?
For example, if you performed put-away, you don't just write put-away. You can research and write the following:
1. What is put-away?
2. How many methods of put-away are there?
3. What is the step-by-step process of put-away that you were required to do?
4. Why did you have to do certain steps?
5. You should also include process charts and diagrams on separate sheets of paper to make your entries look more impressive.
*Always remember you have 2 best friends.
- Google
- 5 Wives and 1 Husband (Why, Where, When, What, Who, How)
Use these to write your reports well.
4. Attendance Sheet
EVERYONE needs to fill up the Attendance Sheet. Whether or not you are using the punch card system, you have to get this filled up and signed.
If your company uses punch card system, you are to photocopy the punch cards and attached them with stapler to this portion.
If you were absent on a certain date, please indicate as absent. If it is a public holiday, please indicate so as well.
Remember to attach MCs onto this portion, if any.
Part 5: Students Feedback
This is the last page of the Logbook. Same as the cover page, please fill in all details correctly.
